SAFECode Executive Director Honored for Outstanding Contributions in Software Security

Wakefield, Mass. – October 10, 2017 – The Software Assurance Forum for Excellence in Code (SAFECode) announced today that SAFECode Executive Director Steven B. Lipner was named a Fellow of (ISC)² at its 2017 Security Congress in Austin, TX.

The Fellow of (ISC) ² award was established to honor and distinguish a select number of elite information security professionals who have made outstanding contributions, throughout their careers, to the information security profession.  (ISC) ² is the world’s leading cybersecurity and IT security professional organization. It is an international nonprofit membership association focused on inspiring a safe and secure cyber world.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be recognized by (ISC) ² and by my peers with the Fellow of (ISC) ² award,” said Lipner.  “As SAFECode’s Executive Director I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to continue working with SAFECode members to develop best practices for delivering more secure and reliable software, hardware and services and share these learnings with the industry.”

Lipner joined SAFECode with more than four decades of experience in software security assurance. He led Microsoft’s Security Development Lifecycle team and was responsible for corporate supply chain security strategies and policies regarding government evaluation of Microsoft security products. A member of the National Academy of Engineering and a National Cyber Security Hall of Fame inductee, his contributions to software assurance have influenced the entire security sector.  He is named as an inventor on 12 U.S. patents in the field of computer and network security. In addition, he co-authored the book, The Security Development Lifecycle.
